Drinking water

Water Treatment Plants (WTP)Raw water in. Safe water out.

A water treatment plant takes raw water from a river, canal, lake or borewell and makes it clear and safe to drink or use. We design it, build it and can run it for you.

What it is

In plain words.

Raw water carries silt, colour, organic matter and germs. You can often see the problem in its colour or smell and taste it in the glass. A water treatment plant removes these in a fixed sequence: chemicals gather fine particles into heavier flocs, the flocs settle out, filters catch what is left, and disinfection keeps the water safe all the way to the tap.

Every source is different, so we start with a water analysis and your daily demand. From there we size each stage, choose the chemicals and filters, and add automation so operators can see and control the plant from one screen. Zeal covers design, supply, installation, commissioning and operation, with maintenance under an AMC if you want it.

How it works

Stage by stage.

  1. Intake

Raw water is drawn from the river, canal, reservoir or borewell, with screens to keep out debris.

  2. Coagulation

A coagulant such as alum is mixed in rapidly, so fine suspended particles start to clump together.

  3. Flocculation

Slow-turning paddles let the small clumps grow into larger, heavier flocs that can settle.

  4. Clarification

Flocs settle to the floor of the clarifier as sludge, which is drawn off and dried for disposal.

  5. Filtration

Sand filters catch the remaining fine particles and are cleaned regularly with a backwash of air and water.

  6. Disinfection & storage

Chlorine is dosed to kill germs, and the clear water is held in a storage tank for supply.

Options

Built to suit the site.

  • Conventional WTP

Separate flash mixer, flocculator, clarifier and gravity filters. Suited to larger flows and surface water with changing turbidity.

  • Packaged WTP

Compact, factory-built units for smaller flows such as campuses, hotels and remote sites, quicker to install.

  • WTP with membranes

UF or RO added after filtration where the source has high dissolved solids or the use needs higher purity.

Where it's used

Industries and sites.

  • Towns & municipalities
  • Housing societies
  • Institutional campuses
  • Hospitals
  • Hotels
  • Industrial process water
  • Drinking water units

Questions

Asked before every project.

What do you need from us to design a WTP?

Your source of water, a recent water analysis, the daily volume you need and the space available. If you have no recent analysis, we can arrange one before we size the plant.

Can the plant run without a full-time operator?

Much of it can be automated with PLC control, so dosing, backwash and pumps run on their own. Someone still needs to check chemicals and readings, and we can provide operators under an O&M contract.

Do you upgrade existing plants?

Yes. We audit the plant, find the stage that is holding it back and upgrade it, whether that is dosing, filtration, disinfection or automation.
