Filtration

Filtration & Iron, Fluoride and Arsenic Removal PlantsClear water, one layer at a time.

Filtration plants remove suspended matter, odour, colour and specific contaminants such as iron, fluoride and arsenic. Choose a single filter or a complete removal train matched to your water.

What it is

In plain words.

A pressure sand filter catches suspended solids and turbidity. An activated carbon filter follows it to take out chlorine, odour, colour and many organic chemicals, which stick to the huge internal surface of porous carbon granules. Together they are the first line of treatment for most borewell and municipal water, and they protect softeners, RO and other equipment downstream.

Some groundwater carries more than dirt. Iron stains fittings and turns water brown, while fluoride and arsenic are not visible at all. A removal plant adds the right step for the problem: oxidation and filtration for iron, or a selective adsorption media for fluoride and arsenic. We test the water first, then design, supply, install and maintain the plant.

How it works

Stage by stage.

  1. Raw water feed

A feed pump draws water from the borewell, tank or supply line and delivers it at steady pressure.

  2. Oxidation

For iron removal, air or an oxidising chemical turns dissolved iron into solid particles that a filter can catch.

  3. Pressure sand filter

Graded sand and gravel layers trap suspended solids, turbidity and the oxidised iron.

  4. Selective media

Where needed, an adsorption media bed takes out fluoride or arsenic from the filtered water.

  5. Carbon filter

Activated carbon removes chlorine, odour, colour and organic matter before the water moves on.

  6. Backwash

Each filter is cleaned by reversing the flow, flushing trapped dirt to drain and restoring the bed.

Options

Built to suit the site.

  • Pressure sand filter

Removes suspended solids and turbidity. Often the first stage before a carbon filter, softener or RO plant.

  • Activated carbon filter

Removes chlorine, odour, colour and organic chemicals by adsorption on porous carbon granules.

  • Iron removal plant

Oxidises dissolved iron so it can be filtered out, stopping brown water and stained fittings.

  • Fluoride removal plant

Passes water through a media that selectively holds fluoride, for groundwater where fluoride is a concern.

  • Arsenic removal plant

Uses a selective adsorption media to take arsenic out of groundwater before use.

Where it's used

Questions

Asked before every project.

Which filter do I need?

It depends on what is in your water. A water analysis tells us whether you need only sand and carbon filters or an added iron, fluoride or arsenic removal stage.

How often does the filter need backwashing?

That depends on how dirty the water is and how much you use. Automatic valves can backwash on a schedule or when the pressure drop rises, so nobody has to remember.

Does the filter media need replacing?

Sand lasts a long time with regular backwashing. Carbon and selective media lose capacity over time and are topped up or replaced, which we can handle under an AMC.
