Wastewater

Sewage Treatment Plants (STP)Used water, ready for a second life.

We design, build and run sewage treatment plants that bring down BOD, COD and suspended solids, so treated water can go back to work for flushing, gardening and cooling.

What it is

In plain words.

Sewage is the used water from kitchens, bathrooms, toilets and cleaning across homes, offices, hotels and public buildings. A sewage treatment plant removes the organic load, solids and germs through a mix of physical, biological and chemical steps. What comes out is a clean liquid stream that is safe to discharge or reuse, and a smaller quantity of sludge that can be dried and handled separately.

Most buildings do not need fresh water for every job. Treated sewage can flush toilets, water gardens and top up cooling towers, which cuts the demand on borewells and municipal supply. We pick the process after looking at your inlet load, available space and the reuse standard you need, then design, supply, install, commission and, if you want, operate the plant for you.

How it works

Stage by stage.

  1. Screening

Bar screens and grit removal take out rags, plastics and sand before they can damage pumps.

  2. Equalisation

A holding tank evens out peak and lean flows so the biology downstream gets a steady feed.

  3. Biological treatment

Bacteria, supplied with air from blowers, break down the organic matter that drives BOD and COD.

  4. Clarification

Solids settle out or are held back by membranes, leaving clear water at the top.

  5. Filtration

Pressure sand and carbon filters polish the water and remove remaining fine particles and colour.

  6. Disinfection

Chlorine or another disinfectant is dosed so the treated water is safe to reuse.

  7. Sludge handling

Excess sludge is thickened and dewatered, ready for disposal or use as manure.

Options

Built to suit the site.

  • Extended Aeration (EA)

A simple, forgiving activated sludge process with long aeration time. Suits sites with steady flows and room to spare.

  • SAFF

Submerged Aeration Fixed Film: bacteria grow on fixed media inside the aeration tank, which holds up well to load changes.

  • SBR

Sequencing Batch Reactor: fill, aerate, settle and decant all happen in one tank, in timed cycles.

  • MBBR

Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor: free-floating plastic carriers hold the bacteria, packing more treatment into a smaller tank.

  • MBR

Membrane Bioreactor: membranes replace the settling tank, giving very clear water in about half the area.

Questions

Asked before every project.

Which STP process should we choose?

It depends on your daily flow, inlet quality, available space and the reuse standard you must meet. We recommend a process after a site survey and show you the trade-offs in cost, area and power.

Can the treated water be used for drinking?

No. Treated sewage is meant for non-potable uses such as flushing, gardening and cooling towers. Drinking water needs its own treatment line.

Can the plant go underground?

Yes, in many cases. Compact designs such as MBR can be installed below ground with landscaping on top, which helps on tight urban sites.
