What it is
In plain words.
An alkaline ionizer works by electrolysis. Drinking water flows through a cell with two electrodes, separated by a membrane. When a current is applied, water near the cathode becomes alkaline and water near the anode becomes acidic. The two streams leave the unit through separate outlets, so the alkaline water can be dispensed while the acidic water is collected or drained.
The alkaline stream typically has a pH of roughly 8 to 9.5, compared with about 7 for neutral water. Ionizers are fitted at drinking-water points in homes, offices, hotels and restaurants. They need water that is already safe to drink, because electrolysis changes pH rather than removing contaminants. We supply and install units and can pair them with filtration or RO where the source water needs treatment first.

Feed water
Water that is already safe to drink enters the unit from the supply or a purifier.
Electrolysis
A current passes between the cathode and anode inside the cell.
Separation
A membrane keeps the alkaline water at the cathode apart from the acidic water at the anode.
Alkaline outlet
Water at a pH of roughly 8 to 9.5 is dispensed at the drinking point.
Acidic outlet
The acidic stream leaves through a separate line to be collected or drained.

Does alkaline water have health benefits?
Zeal does not make medical claims about alkaline water. If you are considering it for health reasons, please rely on independent advice from a qualified professional.
Does the ionizer purify water?
No. Electrolysis changes the pH of the water, it does not remove contaminants. The feed must already be safe to drink, so we fit filtration or RO ahead of the ionizer where needed.
Will it work with RO water?
Electrolysis needs some dissolved minerals to carry the current, so very low-mineral water ionizes less. We check your feed water and advise on the right set-up.
